The Game
October 16th, 2007
Well this one was a long time in coming, and I’m still really not happy with it, but it’s overdue and there are, surprisingly, other pictures that demand attention, so I’m throwing it up here and hopefully something better will follow.
This image comes from Roque over at The Dumb Are Mostly Intrigued By The Drum, his blog about Filmmaking, Fresno, and a combination of the two.
Sweat trailed down Aaron’s forehead. It made a hot, wet path from near his dark hairline and down one side of his nose to sting at the corner of his left eye. Twitching his head didn’t send the bead away, but it did let it continue down to hang annoyingly off the tip of his nose, where he could have ducked his head to one side and rub it off on his shoulder. He could have, but he didn’t. His brown eyes were focused on the game before him and dislodging the sweat would have broken his near-unblinking stare at the screen before him. The controller he hung onto like a life preserver was slick and damp in his hands, the plastic warm from being held so tightly, for so long.
“Don’t mess up,” her voice purred in his ear and suddenly half his vision was blocked by her. Her face in his, otherwise alluring features indistinct with the close proximity of her head to his own. She flicked her tongue at the tip of his nose and caught the salty drop from his skin as he tried to crane his neck around her to see what he was doing. With a tinkling laugh she was out of sight again. Continue reading this entry »
The Distinguished American Post-Meteoric Collision Survival Guide
October 3rd, 2007
Here we go…story number one. I took a stock photo for this one, edited it up a bit, and claimed it as my own, such as it is. Hopefully by Sunday I will be able to bring you something with a reader-submitted photo instead of my own. Thanks for reading!!

If you’re in need of immediate medical attention and are not able to make it to one of the pre-established underground hospitals, please refer to chapter 5 for information on treating cuts, burns, gunshot wounds, and that pesky hacking cough you get after visiting the surface.
One Picture’s Worth.
September 27th, 2007
One Picture’s Worth a thousand words. Give or take. A thousand words is quite a bit, but sometimes it’s never quite enough, and even more so if you start to look outside the edges of the picture. What’s happening just beyond the shutters click? What is going on behind the camera? What is the person holding it thinking? What are the people being photographed looking at with so much interest? What made that weird shadow in the background?
I want to fill in these blanks with writing. One Picture’s Worth of words to accompany the picture. It will hopefully work both ways. You submit to me images of people, places, things, but hopefully something inclined to storytelling, and using that as a foundation I will write a short story about that image (one per week, chosen by yours truly) and post it here. I’m not so conceited as to imagine that my story should be all the justification you need to participate, so all chosen pictures will be credited their photographers, along with a link to your homepage/blog/whatever, to hopefully help return the favor you’re paying me.
So that, in a nutshell, is the site. On Sundays I will upload the picture and story for that week, and throughout the week I might post up tidbits of things here or there that relate somehow to what I’m doing, information, things about whatever, but the main thing is the storytelling, the fusion of picture and word. One Picture’s Worth is not something that can be changed, or judged, by anyone but the beholder, but perhaps I will be able to add something to it in any case.
